Australia is a country, and continent, surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans. Its major cities – Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide – are coastal, but its capital, Canberra, is inland and nicknamed the "Bush Capital." The country is known for its Sydney Opera House, Great Barrier Reef, the vast Outback (interior desert wilderness) and unique animal species including kangaroos and duck-billed platypuses.
Originally all the separate Australian states (Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia) issued their own separate stamps. The first stamp issue for the whole country was on 2 January 1913. Stamp collecting is very popular in Australia and Australia Post issues many commemorative issues every year, often in both gummed and self adhesive format.
All stamps here are just 30p each, regardless of catalogue value. The listings are simplified (much less work for me!) and this section is designed to clear the HUGE amount of stamps I have here just waiting to be listed. There is every chance of finding stamps catalogued many pounds here as they are not checked against the catalogue in any way. All stamps are in perfect condition unless noted otherwise.
